Coronado Practitioner’s Collaborative Launched
Last week, more than two dozen Coronado-based mental health professionals gathered at Garage Buona Forchetta to launch the Coronado Practitioners Collaborative. This new collaboration, spearheaded by Safe Harbor Coronado, serves the dual purpose of providing an avenue to create a reliable referral list for residents seeking local mental health services and creating a supportive community for local mental health practitioners. “Many of our programs at Safe Harbor Coronado aim to teach children and families about the power of human connection and interaction. This collaborative is an opportunity to practice what we preach; to build genuine connections and relationships with our fellow practitioners who have chosen a career that is both rewarding and demanding.” Whitney Gordon, LPCC, Safe Harbor Coronado board member and Chair of the Collaborative.
The group was enthusiastic about the possibilities of where this collaborative community could lead but for now were simply excited to meet. One participant said. “We work in the same building, yet never met until today!” This statement highlights that many mental health professionals have solo practices and don’t always have opportunities to meet with colleagues.
Mental health professionals are highly skilled, however referring to specialists is sometimes necessary. One participant stated, “It’s great to put a face to people I refer out to”. Knowing such specialists on a personal level makes it easier to serve each client's unique needs.
Georgia Chakos Ferrell, Executive Director of Safe Harbor Coronado shared “It has been a long-time goal to add private practitioners to our existing partnerships with school and military therapists. We are looking forward to building more community and connections along with possible new collaborative work as we continue to support the needs of our community.” To learn more, and to access the referral list, visit: www.safehaborcoronado.org/cpc-referral-list
